Caution: Slippery When Wet. The varsity basketball game between the Straughn Tigers and Pleasant Home Eagles was suspended last night due to slippery conditions.
Players for both teams lost their footing several times in the first two minutes of last night's scheduled game causing game officials to suspended play.
Straughn held a 4-1 lead with 6:10 left to play in the first quarter when the game was postponed. Pleasant Home Principal Jim Garner said the two schools will work together to try and reschedule the game.
Straughn swept the other two games of the night.
The Lady Tigers topped the Lady Eagles 44-36. The conditions of the gymnasium floor caused some players to slip in the girls' game, but the game was able to be completed.
Straughn's leading scorer was Danielle Beasley with 30 points. Andrea Cochran and Sonya Padgett had 3 points each. Abby Bracewell, Allye Stokes, McKena Parker and Stacey Gautney had 2 points each.
Heather Little paced Pleasant Home with 10 points. Faith Gunter added 8. Carly Lundy and Leah Turman had 6 each. Beth Cox hit for 5. Amy Jacobs had 1 point.
The Lady Eagles had more opportunities to score going to the free-throw line 30 times compared to Straughn's 16 trips to the charity stripe. The Lady Eagles made 14 of 30 attempts from the free-throw line. Straughn was 9-of-16 from the free-throw line.
In the B-team game, Straughn won 58-34. Jason Cotten had 26 points. Andrew Huggins had 8 points. Andrew Carter and Justin Freeney scored 6 points each. Justin Dortch, Marshall McGlaun, Michael Bozeman and Von Clayborne also scored for Straughn.
