Lady Bulldogs break Mustangs

The Stanhope Elmore Mustangs were late arriving for the scheduled high school basketball games at Andalusia High School last night.

The Lady Mustangs and Lady Bulldogs squared off first with Andalusia earning a 52-38 win.

Ashley Johnson had 15 points for Andalusia to lead the charge. Tanisha Wright added 10 points.

Apri Kilgore scored 8 for Andalusia. Ann Huff hit for 6. Jermeshia McNeil scored 5. Michelle Wells had 4. Rachel Jones and April Daniels added 2 points each.

Amber Hawkins was the leading scorer for Stanhope Elmore with 16 points in the loss.

Andalusia went on top early and held a 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs added to the lead and were high in the saddle with a 37-19 lead at the halftime break.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs were never threatened en route to a 52-38 win.

The varsity boys basketball team from AHS did not fare as well against their counterparts from Stanhope Elmore.

The Mustangs bucked the Bulldogs in the first quarter flying out of the gate for a 14-8 lead after one quarter of play.

The Bulldogs got back in the saddle and cut the lead to four at the halftime intermission by a score of 24-20.

The Mustangs answered in the third quarter with a 17-9 run for a 41-29 lead going into the final stanza.

Andalusia mounted a comeback, but came up short falling by a final score of 53-42.

Cedric McKeithen paced the Mustangs with 18 points.

Lance Evans was the leading scorer for Andalusia with 14. Brandon Wilson added 10.

Michael Cauley had 8 points in the loss. Andrae Wright contributed 6. Christian Goldsmith hit for 4.

The Andalusia squads are slated to be back in action on Friday against the T.R. Miller Tigers from Brewton. The action is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. with a B-team game followed by a varsity girls' game and then the varsity boys' contest.

The Bulldogs are also slated to host Charles Henderson High School of Troy next Tuesday beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the B-team game.

The 9th-grade Bulldogs are scheduled to play this Thursday (Dec. 4) at 5 p.m. when they host the Charles Henderson Trojans.
