Nine players from football teams across Covington County have received mention in the Alabama Sports Writers Association's 2003 All-State Football Team.

Although no players from the 1A schools in Covington County were named to the team, wide receiver A.J. Thompson of Florala did earn a spot on the honorable mention list.

In class 2A, running back Larry Hudson of Red Level earned a spot on the offensive team. He was joined by teammates Randall Hunt and Randy Howard, who received honorable mentions.

In class 3A, Straughn's Brent Nall earned a place as a linebacker on the defensive roster. Straughn also earned the distinction of placing the most players on the overall list, by having three players earn spots on the honorable mention list. Al Freeney, Michael Hobbs and Bobo McVay all earned a nod.

In 4A, Andalusia's Michael Dutton received a spot on the defensive team for his efforts as a defensive back.
