Florala Lady Wildcats top Rehobeth Rebels

The Florala Lady Wildcats held off a fourth period charge by the Rehobeth Lady Rebels to notch a victory in the Mizell Memorial Hospital Christmas Tournament Monday night by a final score of 49-43.

In the closest game of the tournament thus far - men's or women's - the Lady Wildcats will now face the Lady Purple Cats of Ariton at 6 p.m., tonight in the championship game.

The first period saw the girls from Florala jump out to a 14-6 lead, with six different girls from Florala all finding the basket.

The highlight of the period for the Florala girls was Brittney Carson's three-pointer. Carson also scored two earlier in the period, leading the scoring with five at the end of the first. Alison Cobb, Latoya Wilson, Nikki Windham, Darlene Aguigui, and Cynthia Campbell also found the basket in the first.

For the Lady Rebels, four of their six points came off of free throws, with Mallory Allen getting two and Angie Johnson also nabbing two free throws. Crystal Davis scored the only basket for the Rebels in the first.

In the second, Davis scored all four points for the Rebels, with four more girls from Florala scoring.

Wilson, Aguigui, and Denesthia Smiley all scored two apiece, with Cobb netting two free throws.

At the end of two, the Lady Wildcats held a 22-10 lead.

In the third Florala pulled ahead as Carson scored 10 points, including two three-pointers.

The Rebels could only muster 10 points in the third, giving Florala a 38-20 lead.

In the fourth, the Lady Rebels fought hard, winning the period by outscoring the Lady Wildcats 23 to 9.

Johnson scored eight points, with Karina Woodward scoring five.

For the Lady Wildcats, Wilson notched eight of the Wildcats nine points, with Carson netting a lone free throw.

The 49-43 final gave the Wildcats a shot at the Purple Cats, with Rehobeth set to face Pleasant Home at 1:30 p.m.
