Harmony shooting investigated

Law enforcement officials in Covington County had a busy afternoon Wednesday at a residence on County Road 70, just west of Harmony Baptist Church.

According to a report from the Covington County Sheriff's Department, Covington County E-911 received a call around 12:15 p.m. for a general disturbance with weapons involved at the residence of Roy Leon Denney.

When law enforcement officials arrived on scene, they were advised that the other subjects involved in the incident had left the scene.

An Alabama Beverage Control Board agent located the vehicle that was involved in the incident, and stopped the automobile was stopped on US Hwy. 29 North. The driver was detained, but the passenger fled the scene.

Local residents assisted with the apprehension of the fleeing suspect, identified as Edward McLellan.

McLellan had sustained a gunshot would, reportedly to the abdomen from the disturbance and was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital by Andalusia Rescue Squad.

According to Sheriff Anthony Clark, law enforcement officials had been at the scene of the incident earlier in the day on a separate call.

"We were out here earlier in the day, about 1-hour prior, on a criminal mischief call," Clark said. "We're still investigating the situation to determine exactly what happened."

Assisting the sheriff's department were the 22nd Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force and the Andalusia Police Department.
