Red Level defeats Straughn, 78-62

The Red Level Tigers topped the Straughn Tigers for the second time this season in high school basketball action on Friday.

The boys' varsity basketball team from Red Level got 26 points from senior Larry Hudson in a 78-62 victory.

Red Level went on top of Straughn 13-10 in the first quarter and stretched the lead to nine points at the halftime break.

The Red Level Tigers went on a 20-14 run in the second quarter to add to the lead.

In the third period, Red Level outscored Straughn 21-16 for a 54-40 lead going into the final quarter.

Red Level outscored Straughn again in the fourth quarter putting up 24 points to Straughn's 22 for a 78-62 win.

Frank Tolbert had 13 points for Red Level in the win. Malcolm Lawson added 12 points.

Will McInvale and Russell Rigdon had 7 points each. Tim Ryce added 5. Eric Longmire scored 4 points. Jermaine Jackson and Chris Hendrix scored 2 points each.

Garrett Windham was the leading scorer for Straughn with

16 points. Scotty Rabren added 12 points. Sterling Driver ended the game with 11 points.

Also scoring for Straughn were Jeremy Hunt, Andrew Huggins and Jared Armstrong with 6 points each. Alphonso Freeney had 5 points.

Straughn won the varsity girls' game by a final score of 73-12.

Danielle Beasley had 27 points for Straughn. Abby Bracewell added 16 points for the Lady Tigers of Straughn. Allye Stokes scored 10 points.

Also scoring for Straughn were Andrea Cochran, Ashley Daniels, McKena Parker, Stacey Gautney, Anjelica White and Victoria King.

Chequita Calloway had 5 points for Red Level. Janaye Brown had 3 points. Andrea Calloway and Jessica Crawford had 2 points each.

Red Level won the B-team game by outscoring Straughn 49-38.

Clay Marshall paced Red Level on offense with 17 points. Troy Calloway added 13 points.

Princeton Ryce scored 9 points for Red Level. Casey Hardage had 5 points. Terrence Marshall had 4. Jonathan Griggs had 1 point.

Justin Freeney was the leading scorer for Straughn with 13 points. Jason Cotton and Justin Dortch added 7 points each.

Also scoring for Straughn were Andrew Carter, Marshall McGlaun and Cedrick Marshall.

Red Level basketball teams return to action on Monday when the Tigers play in Opp. The B-team game tips off the action at 4:30 p.m.
