Abbeville sweeps Straughn

The Straughn Tigers fell to the Abbeville Yellow Jackets on Saturday.

The visiting Yellow Jackets won all three games.

The action began with the Yellow Jackets winning the B-team game by a final score of

50-28.

Michael Culver paced Abbeville with 9 points. Blake Spivey and Duran Slaton had 8 points each.

Justin Dortch was the leading scorer for Straughn with 10 points in the loss.

Jason Cotton added 8 points. Justin Freeney hit for 6. Andrew Carter had 4 points.

Abbeville won the girls' game by a final score of 55-33 after building a 14-3 lead in the first quarter.

Straughn's Lady Tigers battled back in the second quarter and trailed by just five points at the half by a score of 21-16.

Robin Porter and the Abbeville Lady Yellow Jackets were too much in the third period outscoring the Lady Tigers 15-2 for a 36-18 lead.

The Lady Yellow Jackets added to the lead in the fourth quarter for a 55-33 win.

Porter ended the game with 24 points for Abbeville.

Danielle Beasley was the leading scorer for Straughn with 14 points. McKena Parker added 10 points.

Abby Bracewell had 5 points, Ashley Daniels and Allye Stokes scored 2 points each.

The Lady Tigers are now 13-3 on the season and 0-1 in area play.

Abbeville is now 13-2 on the season.

Abbeville won the varsity boys game and broke the century mark in the process.

Abbeville started the game strong outscoring Straughn 28-15 en route to a 103-61 victory.

Abbeville continued to outscore the Tigers in the second quarter and held a 52-34 lead at the half.

In the third period, Abbeville scored 26 points to Straughn's 12 for a 78-46 lead going into the final period.

The Yellow Jackets and Tigers scored 25 points each in the final quarter with Abbeville taking the win.

The loss drops Straughn to 7-9 on the season and 0-1 in area play.

Leon Sowell, John Grubbs and Victor Fryer scored 15 points each for Abbeville in the win.

Garrett Windham was the leading scorer for the Tigers and the game's high scorer with 20 points.

Al Freeney and Sterling Driver added 11 points each for Straughn.

Scotty Rabren added 9 points. Jared Armstrong and Jody Sexton scored 5 points each in the loss.

The Straughn basketball teams return to action on Thursday when they host the Brantley Bulldogs beginning with the B-team game at 4:30 p.m.

Straughn host the Ariton Purple Cats on Friday with the B-team game tipping off the action at 4:30 p.m.
