Eagles, Tigers in title games

The Pleasant Home 7th-grade boys' basketball team and two Straughn junior high school teams advanced to championship games in the Covington County Junior High School Basketball Tournament on Wednesday.

The championship games will be held today at Florala City Middle School beginning at 4 p.m.

The Pleasant Home 7th-grade Eagles earned a shot at the title with a 25-21 win against Straughn on Wednesday.

J.B. Thompson paced the Eagles with 9 points. Stephen Davis and Emory Rabren had 6 points each. Dominek Sims and Cody Taylor scored 2 points each.

Ryne Taylor scored 12 points for Straughn. Cole Armstrong added 5. Trae Bowen and Tyler Yelverton scored 2 points each.

The Eagles will play the 7th-grade Red Level Tigers in the tital game at 4 p.m. today.

In the girls' bracket, Straughn's Lady Tigers topped the Florala Lady Wildcats 38-15 to advance to the title game.

Andrea Sport paced the Lady Tigers with 16 points. Angelica White was right behind her in scoring with 13 points. Kayla Elliott, Hannah Carter and Ashley Frost also scored for Straughn.

Florala's points came from Jasmine Harrison, Reva Odom, Jessica Bennett, Katie Jones and Lori Davis.

Straughn's Lady Tigers will play the Fleeta Lady Falcons in the championship game at 5:15 p.m. today in Florala.

Straughn will also be represented in the 8th-grade boys' title game after a 43-27 win against Fleeta on Wednesday.

Trenton Driver paced the Tigers with 20 points. Josh Dozier had 9 points. Trevor Driver added 7. Also scoring for Straughn were Landon Butts, Mitch Myers and Seth Kinsaul.

Charlie Chinn was the leading scorer for Fleeta with 13 points. Also scoring for the Falcons were Allen Barlow, David Dixon, Sam Helms and Scott Cain.

Straughn plays Florala in the title game tonight at 6:15 p.m. at Florala City Middle School.
