Lady Saints bury Bevill State

Sneakers were squeaking and the sound of basketballs bouncing off the hardwood floor in Seth Hammett Gymnasium on the campus of LBW Community College had the Saints hosting Bevill State Community College.

The Lady Saints took to the court first with a 5:30 p.m. tip off and built a 38-31 first half lead.

In the second half, the Lady Saints blitzed Bevill State increasing the lead to 17 points for a 70-53 win.

The win is the first conference win of the season for the Lady Saints who are now 13-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Lady Saints conference loss came to Shelton State. The Lady Saints get a rematch against Shelton State on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Sherekia Meadows paced the Lady Saints on offense against Bevill State with 19 points. Amanda Dubose added 13 points. Jamie Walker hit for 11 points.

Also scoring for the Lady Saints were Ashley Berklin, Monica Wheat, Marla Akins, Tabritta McDaniel and Trelesha Sims.

The LBW Community College men's basketball team did not fare as well as the Lady Saints coming up just short.

The Saints fell to Bevill State 78-72 in overtime.

Bevill State went on top 29-28 in the first half, but the Saints outscored them by one point in the second half to knot the score at 66-66 and send the contest into overtime.

The loss drops the Saints to 7-9 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

The Saints return to action tonight when they host Alabama Southern Community College.

The women's game begins the action at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Saints will be on the road Saturday when the men's and women's teams travel to Muscle Shoals to play Northwest Shoals Community College. The women's game tips off the action at 3 p.m. followed by the men's game at 5 p.m.
