Bobcats pluck Eagles

Cats hunt birds and Monday night was no exception for the Paxton (Fla.) High School Bobcats.

The Pleasant Home Eagles travelled to Paxton for a road game and fell to the Bobcats in all three games.

The varsity boys' game was close for a half until the Bobcats dug their claws in and scratched out a larger margin.

The Bobcats held a slim 9-6 lead after one quarter of play and were on top 17-10 at the halftime break.

In the second half, the Paxton Bobcats came out with sharper claws and went on a 21-10 run in the third quarter for a 38-20 lead.

Pleasant Home managed to win the fourth quarter by outscoring Paxton 14-12, but it was not enough with the Bobcats securing a 50-34 win.

The Bobcats are now 13-7 on the season. The Eagles are now 4-14.

Kirk Sebastian paced the Bobcats with 16 points in the win. Jamison Geohagan had 11 points. Austin Garrett hit for 10 points against Pleasant Home.

Also scoring for Paxton were Dustin Burlison, Jordy Currid, Danny Campbell, Josh Carroll and Chris Davenport.

Nathaniel Blount was the high scorer for Pleasant Home with 13 points. Daniel Coleman added 6 points and Chris Little hit for 5.

Also scoring for the Eagles were Brad Sanders, Brent Carter, Miles Nichols and Isaac Edgar.

The Paxton Lady Cats topped the Lady Eagles, 60-51.

The game was close early with Paxton on top 17-15 after one quarter and 28-23 at the half.

Paxton attempted to build a large lead, but Pleasant Home kept it close falling by 9 points.

Susan Williams scored 17 points to lead the charge for Paxton. Teresa Reese added 12 and Alex McCormick hit for 10.

Also scoring for the Lady Cats were Marylynn Gilbert, Felina Lawson and Jessica Brake.

Faith Gunter was the leading scorer for Pleasant Home with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Pleasant Home's Beth Cox had 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Also scoring for the Lady Eagles were Heather Little, Jessica Bryant, Amy Jacobs, Carly Lundy and Leah Turman.

Pleasant Home Head Coach Kelley Garner said her players fought hard the entire game but struggled shooting the ball.

"We missed crucial free throws at the end," Garner said. "Four of them were on the front end of one-and-one's."

The Pleasant Home B-team Eagles fell to Paxton's Bobcats by a final score of 36-25.

Josh Golden scored 9 points for Paxton. Levi Dolihite added 7.

Pleasant Home's points came from Adam Copeland, Jared Powell, Avry King, Clark Sanders, Bob Ballard and Josh Douglass.

All three Pleasant Home team's play tonight in McKenzie with the B-team game set for a 4:30 p.m. start.

The Pleasant Home teams will travel to Straughn on Friday to play the Class 3A Tigers beginning with a B-team game at 4:30 p.m.

The game against the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles set for Tuesday, Feb. 3 will be a home game for the Pleasant Home Eagles. It will be the final home game of the season and "Senior Night." The B-team game will begin at 4:30 p.m.
