Opp sweeps Warhawks

Opportunity struck and the Bobcats took advantage of it.

The Opp Bobcats were hosting the Daleville Warhawks for Class 4A, Area 3 games.

All three Opp teams won. The varsity Bobcats are now 10-9 on the season and 2-3 in area play. The Lady Bobcats are now 10-7 on the season and 3-2 in area play.

Both varsity games were close after the B-team Bobcats roughed up the visiting Warhawks for a 60-29 win.

Bryan Tillis and Torshawn Brooks scored 8 points each for the Bobcats in the win. Also scoring were Demario Jones, Nico Mount, Zach Banks, Jemarko Lacy and Chris Dunbar.

The varsity girls' game was close despite the Lady Bobcats ability to build an 18-9 lead in the first quarter.

The Lady Warhawks battled back in the second period and held a 29-25 lead over Opp at the half.

The Lady Warhawks reminded on top after three periods of play after outscoring the Lady Bobcats 22-19 for a 51-44 lead.

The Lady Bobcats rallied in the final stanza for a 63-61 win. Trinity Osborn led the charge for Opp with 28 points in the win. Sasha Musgrove added 16 points. Ashley Mock ended the game with 10.

Also scoring for Opp were Natasha Archie, Kiara Henderson and Kim Crittenden.

Eighth-grader Kendra McKinney was the leading scorer for Daleville with 25 points.

In the varsity boys' game, the Opp Bobcats fell behind big in the first quarter. The Warhawks outscored Opp 23-9 in the opening period.

The Bobcats all but shutdown the Warhawks in the second period putting together an 18-6 run to get within two points at the half. The teams went to the locker rooms with Daleville on top 29-27.

The Warhawks maintained the two-point cushion in the third period as both squads scored 16 points.

Opp was behind 45-43 going into the final period and used a 23-15 run to take the lead and earn a 66-60 win.

Daniel Coleman had 23 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Alphonso Harris also had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Emanuel Lane added 12 points.

Tyrell Hunter and Mariel Mount hit for 7 each. Demaril Smith had one point in his first varsity game. He also yanked down 7 boards in the win.

Cory Johnson was the leading scorer for Daleville with 30 points, including four three-pointers.

All three Opp teams will be back on the court Tuesday when they host Geneva High School beginning with a B-team game at 4:30 p.m.
