Two high school basketball teams from Covington County remained ranked in the Alabama Sports Writers' Association Poll.

The Red Level Tigers are now ranked No. 5 in Class 2A and the Straughn Lady Tigers are No. 8 in Class 3A.

Wenonah's Lady Dragons (17-1) moved to the top of Class 6A this week in the Alabama Sports Writers Association state prep girls basketball rankings. The Dragons replaced two-time defending state champ Sparkman (16-2), which lost for the second time this season over the weekend.

Coach June Seals' Senators fell to Spain Park 41-37 - the biggest win in school history for the Lady Jaguars (8-7). Sparkman dropped to No. 2.

Elsewhere, John Carroll Catholic (15-3) won for the 14th time in a row to keep its top spot in the Class 6A boys Top 10. Baldwin County (15-3) and Parker (18-4) remained a firm 2-3. In Class 5A, West End (14-3) edged out No. 2 Athens (17-2) again this week. The Lions have now won 12 of their last 13 and will meet Parker next Monday at Fair Park's Bill Harris Arena in the final game of a Martin Luther King Day tripleheader.

On the girls side, J.O. Johnson (17-1) has a firm hold on Class 5A's top position. Deshler (13-3) remains first in 4A; Lauderdale County (16-1), in 3A; Hatton (16-3), in 2A; Notasulga (13-0), in 1A; and Kingwood Christian (17-0), in the AISA.

One record of note fell Tuesday night when Alabama School for the Deaf sophomore Shantaye Massey, a 5-foot-8 forward, pulled down 42 rebounds in a 44-31 win over Fayetteville. The previous mark of 38 was set by Childersburg's Maida Harris.
