Tigers tame Hurricanes

In a battle of Top 10 teams, the Red Level Tigers earned a 68-61 win against the Flomaton Hurricanes last night.

The No. 5-ranked Tigers pulled away at the end of the contest to secure the victory against the No. 6-ranked Hurricanes.

The win gives the Red Level squad an overall record of 14-4 with a undefeated record in Class 2A, Area 2 with one area game remaining. The final area game is a home game for the Tigers on Tuesday.

The Tigers pounced out to a slim one-point lead in the first quarter against the Hurricanes by a score of 20-19.

In the second quarter, the Hurricanes outscored the Tigers 13-12 to send the teams into the halftime intermission knotted at 32-32.

Red Level won the third quarter by outscoring Flomaton 18-17 for a 50-49 edge going into the final eight-minute quarter.

The game was close with Red Level building a small lead.

The Tigers held a 59-53 advantage with 3:30 left to play. Both teams scored 5 points over the next

two minutes giving the Tigers a 64-58 lead with 1:30 left in the game.

Red Level outscored Flomaton 4-3 the final minute for a 68-61 win.

Frank Tolbert was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 27 points. Will McInvale played a key role in the win with 18 points and several rebounds. He was especially strong for the Tigers in the third quarter.

Larry Hudson added 11 points for Red Level from his guard position. Russell Rigdon, Malcolm Lawson and Chris Hendrix also scored for the Tigers.

Alphonso Wesley was the leading scorer for Flomaton with 19 points. C.J. Williams and Leon Johnson added 14 points each. Brian Wesley scored 10 points for the Hurricanes.

In the girls' game, the Lady Hurricanes blew past the Lady Tigers recording a 78-16 win.

Shaquita Odom had 18 points for Flomaton with Tiffany Cayson hitting for 17 in the win.

Jessica Crawford was the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers with 6 points. Janaye Brown had 4 points. Breanna Pate and Erica Crawford added 2 points each.

Red Level won the B-team game by a final score of 47-41.

The B-team went on top 15-0 in the first quarter and held a 26-14 lead at the halftime break.

In the second half, it was more of the same for the Tigers.

The B-team Tigers coasted to a win despite being outscored 27-21 in the second half.

The Tigers had a big enough lead at the half to earn the win despite Flomaton's efforts in the second half.

Dominic Williams paced the Tigers with 17 points. Troy Calloway added 9 points in the win.

Also scoring for the B-team Tigers were Princeton Ryce, Clay Marshall, Tyler Walker, Cody Ingram, Jonathon Griggs and Casey Hardage.

All three teams will be in action against the Excel Panthers on Tuesday. The B-team game will tip off the action at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity girls' game and the varsity boys' contest.
