Wildcats cage Tigers, Purple Cats

The Florala Wildcats hosted the Ariton Purple Cats on Friday and posted a 73-58 win to improve to 14-6 on the season.

Eleven of the 12 Florala players dressed out for the varsity game scored. A.J. Thompson paced the team with 16 points. Corderus Smiley added 13. Vance Gettis hit for 11 points.

Tristan Matthews scored 9 points. Danny Wilson added 7. Victor Hobdy and Xavier Jones scored 5 points each. Kaleb Scofield had 3 points. Maurice Hobdy and Josh Johnson scored 2.

The Florala Lady Wildcats lost a close game to the Lady Purple Cats by a final score of 35-32. The loss drops Florala to 13-7 on the season.

Liz Ferman scored 13 points. Brittney Carson had 8 points. LaToya Wilson scored 5 points.

In the B-team game, Florala topped Ariton 48-34.

Jonathan Carnley scored 10 points. Rick Williams added 7 points. Kyle McCoy scored 6 points.

Also scoring for Florala were Michael Carson, Dominique Moore, Reggie Gundrum, T.J. Fleming, Michael Peterson, O.J. Chambers and DeAndre Lewis also scored.

The Wildcats topped McKenzie on Thursday outscoring the Tigers 81-73.

Florala went on top by five points in the first quarter and held a 38-34 lead at the halftime break.

Florala was on top 62-54 after three quarters. Both teams scored 19 points in the fourth quarter as Florala held on for the win.

Xavier Jones had 21 points in the win. Tristan Matthews added 17 points. Victor Hobdy had 12 points. Danny Wilson scored 9 points. A.J. Thompson scored 8 points. Vance Gettis had 7 points. Josh Johnson scored 6 points. Kaleb Scofield had 1 point.

In the girls' game, Florala's Lady Wildcats won big outscoring the McKenzie's Lady Tigers 58-26.

Florala went on top 14-6 in the first quarter and held a 32-14 advantage at the halftime break.

In the second half, it was more of the same as the Lady Wildcats outscored McKenzie 26-12.

Brittney Carson was the leading scorer with 25 points. Liz Ferman added 20 points in the win. Alison Cobb scored 9 points. Cynthia Campbell had 4 points.

The Florala teams returns to action on Tuesday when the Wildcats host the Pleasant Home Eagles for area games beginning with a B-team game at 4:30 p.m.
