The tranquility of a Wednesday night in an Andalusia neighborhood was broken when a brief car chase ended in a two-vehicle accident, according to a Alabama State Troopers dispatcher in Evergreen.
According to an Andalusia Police Department press release, at approximately 8:48 p.m., Roy Leon Denny, 35, of Andalusia was driving a white 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier before losing control of the vehicle and striking a utility pole at the intersection of East Three Notch and McRainey Loop. A second passenger, Michael Tyson Lee, 18, of Gantt was also in that vehicle at the time.
Andalusia Police Chief Wilbur Williams said the chase originally started because there were no visible tags on the Chevrolet.
"The vehicle started to comply with the police officer and pull over, but then he took off," Williams said.
Williams added the chase was brief, "lasting only about 47 seconds."
The AST dispatcher said the second vehicle was an Andalusia Police cruiser – a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. The officer driving the vehicle was Charlie Scott of Red Level.
After crashing, Denny and Lee were transported by the Andalusia Rescue Squad to Andalusia Regional Hospital. They were both treated and released for minor injuries.
Scott sustained no injuries.
A lineman for the city was at the scene to restore power to residents and businesses in the area which were without electricity because of the incident.
Also on the scene were representatives from the Andalusia Fire Department, Covington County Sheriff's Department, the 22nd Judicial Circuit Covington County Drug Task Force, and Gantt Police Department.
