The Red Level Tigers, Straughn Lady Tigers and Andalusia Lady Bulldogs are all ranked again this week.
The Lady Bulldogs moved up from No. 10 in Class 4A to No. 6 following a win against previously No. 6-ranked UMS-Wright.
The Straughn Lady Tigers are currently ranked No. 9 in Class 3A.
The Red Level Tigers are ranked No. 7 in Class 2A.
Selma High School’s Lady Saints (26-1) became the fourth team in the last four weeks to rank No. 1 in the Alabama Sports Writers Association state girls 6A basketball rankings.
Two-time defending state champ Sparkman led for the first half of the season, but three quick losses sent the Senators out and Wenonah in.
The Lady Dragons (22-3) then lost to Fairfield in overtime which made way for last week’s leader Clay-Chalkville (29-3).
The Cougars, with only one loss last Wednesday, fell at Prattville and at Fairfield which paved the way for second-ranked Selma to move to the top spot this week.
The other leaders remained the same as the ASWA released its last state poll of the season. Area tournaments in Class 6A and some areas in other classes with more than four teams this weekend.
Once post-season play begins, the ASWA does not release any more rankings. Clay-Chalkville’s girls were ranked 46th nationally last week by StudentSports Fab 50, and John Carroll Catholic (24-3), the 6A boys leader, is ranked 38th this week in StudentSports’ boys Top 50 national poll.
