Lady Bulldogs 2-0

The Andalusia High School softball season started with a gem of a game Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs held off the winless Greenville Lady Tigers (0-3) for a 1-0 win.
Katie Howell was the starting pitcher for the Lady Bulldogs (1-0) and got the win. She allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out 5 in the game.
The Lady Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead and made it stand up the rest of the way for the win.
Beth Benson started the rally with a single. Hannah Bush kept the rally going with a two-out double to put runners on second and third for Lindsey Carr.
The Andalusia catcher came up big with an RBI-single to plate Benson for the game-winning run.
The Lady Bulldogs were back on the diamond Tuesday. The JV and varsity squads defeated the Elba Lady Tigers in Elba.
The JV Lady Bulldogs earned a lopsided win by a final score of 18-4. Cara Kirkland was the winning pitcher. Sarah Wofford pitched three innings in relief.
Kirby Soles had a hot bat going 3-for-5. Caitlin Edmondson was 3-for-4 at the plate. Meghan Sasser was 2-for-4. All 11 players on the JV team scored.
In the varsity game, it was a thriller with the Lady Bulldogs scratching out a 4-3 win in eight innings.
Hannah Reynolds was the winning pitcher. She went all eight innings allowing three runs on four hits. She Struck out 11.
Katie Howell and Kali Mathews scored in the top of the eighth inning to give the Lady Bulldogs a 4-2 edge. Hannah Bush knocked the eventual game-winning run with an RBI-double.
Elba answered with one run in the bottom of the eighth inning and had a runner on first with one out.
Andalusia got out of the inning with a ground out back to the pitcher and a strikeout.
The AHS JV and Varsity squads host the Enterprise Lady Wildcats on Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
