Straughn sweeps Squadron

The Straughn baseball team began the 2004 season with a clean sweep of the Highland Home Flying Squadron in doubleheader action on Saturday.
The Straughn Tigers won the first game by a final score of 9-0. Brent Hinds was the winning pitcher allowing two hits and one walk through six innings while striking out 11. Justin Bracewell pitched one inning and issued a walk while striking out one.
The Tigers' offense came from several players.
Jamie Straughn was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Bracewell was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Hinds was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Cas Sasser was 1-for-4 with one run scored. Hunter Norris was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Daniel Beckworth had a big game at the plate going 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs, including a two-run home run. Dustin Worley was 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI.
Straughn won the second game by a final score of 17-4.
Jamie Straughn pitched five innings and struck out 11 while issuing one walk.
Heath Holmes pitched one inning in relief and struck out two.
Jamie Straughn helped himself with a strong day at the plate going 2-for-5 in the second game with three runs scored.
Aaron Tucker had the biggest day. He was 2-for-2 in the second game with one run scored and six RBIs, including four on a grand slam home run.
Bracewell was 1-for-3 with four runs scored and one RBI. Hinds was 1-for-2. Jared Armstrong was 1-for-3. Eric Dauphin was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Daniel Beckworth was 1-for-1 with one run scored and two RBIs. Dustin Worley was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
The Straughn Tigers are scheduled to compete in a tournament in Enterprise this week.
