The Fort Dale Eagles were scheduled to take a road trip to face Mobile Christian Friday night.
According to David Brantley, Headmaster of Fort Dale Academy, the game has been cancelled and rescheduled for Nov. 5.
"The decision was made after consulting with the Mobile Christian people and the AISA," Brantley said.
"Initially, there was the thought of trying to play it on Monday. Neither us nor Mobile Christian was in favor of that."
The decision to cancel the game did come with a price.
The rescheduled date of Nov. 5 put the Fort Dale vs. Mobile Christian game in the middle of the first round of the Alabama Independent School Association playoffs.
With that information, the state decided to extend the regular season by one week.
The
state championship playoffs have been rescheduled to start Nov. 12.
"The AISA decided to reschedule those games for the week of Nov. 5 and move their playoffs back a week.
Because so many schools are going to effected by the Hurricane and the cancellation."
According to the Mobile Register, Mobile County athletics director Calvin Crist said schools in the county will let out three hours early today and contingency plans have been developed for postponement of this week's games should Ivan threaten Mobile.
