Butler County School Superintendent Mike Reed has announced public schools will remain closed in the county until all county roads and bridges can be checked for safety.

Because some rural roads are still impassable following Hurricane Ivan, and many bridges still need to be inspected, Reed said the decision was made not to put any of the county's school buses on the road until everything has been thoroughly checked. An announcement will be made later in the week concerning re-opening the county schools, he said.
