Mighty Mites, Termites advance to semi#039;s

Two of the three Greenville squads have advanced into the second round of the 2004 Bi-County League Playoffs.

Greenville's Mighty Mites and Termites both were victorious in their first round games and will play the Mighty Mites and Termites from Evergreen, the Aggie squad.

Mighty Mites will take the field at 9 a.m. with the winner advancing to the Superbowl that will be played at 3 p.m.

For the Termites, their second round match-up is slated to kick at 10 a.m. The winner of that game will also advance to the Superbowl. Kickoff for that game is set for 4 p.m.

Greenville's Pee-Wee squad entered into to the playoffs as a No. 6 seed but were eliminated in the first round by McKenzie, who was the No. 3 seed.

By far, the most dominant performance of the first round was by the Tiger Termites.

The final score of the game against McKenzie was 32-6.

It was 26-0 at the end of the first half and the Greenville squad did not touch the ball in the second half until late. When they did touch it, Fernandez Grey filled the role of center and performed a center sneak play that was good for a 60-yard touchdown run.

That was his second of the day.

Grey scored twice.

Brian Smith, Brandon Smith, Kenterian Riley and Demontrez Dean also added touchdowns in the win.

The win pushed Greenville into the second round of the playoffs to face the Evergreen Aggies. The Aggies dispatched of an outmatched McKenzie squad in the first round.

Earlier in the day, the Mighty Mites from Greenville knocked the Fort Deposit Red Devils out of the tournament with a 28-6 win.

Delino Lee posted two touchdowns, followed by Terail Snipes and Jeremy Lewis.

The squad of 7-8 year olds will face the Evergreen Aggies in the second round. The Aggies advanced by beating McKenzie in the first round.
