Community honors Rutledge#039;s Verbie Broderway

Several people gathered at the Rutledge Community Center on Nov. 20 for a special benefit held in honor of Ms. Verbie Broderway.

A variety of talented musicians and singers gave it their all in pleasing the group who came to hear Gospel, Blue Grass and Country. The musicians and singers were Becky Welch and &uot;The Gospel Sound," Lonnie McGough, a member of &uot;Southern Comfort," Terry and Kathy Till and their son Kelvin of Troy and Clara Williams.

During the intermission those on hand enjoyed hot bowls of chili, hot dogs, chips, deserts, coffee and drinks available by donation.

All proceeds from food and love offering were given to Broderway to help with an immediate financial need.

Broderway wishes to give a heartfelt thanks to all who came and gave a donation and a special thanks to the ones who donated and helped with the food. She was so grateful to all the musicians and singers who gave of their time and talent. She repeatedly said, &uot;God is so good. Thank you all for coming, God bless you, I love and appreciate you for the love and concern you have blessed me with.&uot;

The Annual Crenshaw County Community Thanksgiving Service was hosted by Luverne Methodist Church on Nov.

21.

Rev. Jesse Evans welcomed everyone and Rev. Steve DeFee gave a prayer of Thanksgiving. The Methodist Choir with Jim Head as choir director gave special music.

A special offering was collected. All proceeds will go to the Crenshaw County Department of Human Resources to help with family needs during the Thanksgiving season.

Rev. Evans gave the thanksgiving message, &uot;On this Day, I’m Thankful.&uot;

Handmade Christmas ornaments, made by the residents of Lake Haven, are now available for sale.

The ornaments are on display in the living room area at Lake Haven. You may visit and make your selections. The proceeds go to help with their craft projects and other activities they support.

These ornaments would make great teacher and friends gifts.

The New Outlook group of Luverne First Baptist Church took a trip to Florala for their November meeting.

A time of fun and fellowship was enjoyed on the bus trip. The highlight of the trip was a meal at Country Folks Buffet. Julia Davis entertained the group while traveling with a surprise gift for each one.

Those enjoying this fun outing included J.I. and Mazelle Brook, H.T. and Helen Moulton, Bubba and Julia Davis, Voncile Nichols, Mildred Olive, Dot Nichols, Elgie Lee Mason, Betty Bray and the bus drivers Jimmy and Ann Taylor.

The Luverne First Baptist Church W.M.U. hosted a church wide Mexican dinner featuring hot and spicy Mexican food.

The ladies of the church prepared the food. The members of W.M.U. were dressed in Mexican attire. A table filled with Mexican culture was on display.

W.M.U. President Voncile Nichols shared some very interesting facts of the culture and religion south of the border and the mission work there. Julia Davis gave a short presentation concerning the food in Mexico and how the Baptist Missionaries struggled to adjust to the spicy foods.

However having a meal with families can also help connect with their spiritual needs. After the program Mazelle Brook gave a prayer and a blessing for the meal.

The South Luverne Baptist Women met Tuesday Nov. 16 in the Church Fellowship Hall.

Doris Rogers led the final book study on &uot;When my Faith Seems Shallow.&uot; The group prepared three Thanksgiving Appreciation Baskets for local law enforcement departments. This was a S.L.B Church wide project to give thanks to law enforcement for all they do to help and protect their communities.

The baskets were delivered to the Luverne Fire and Rescue Department by Doris Rogers and Jane Kauffman, Christine Coggins and Faye Moody delivered a basket to the Luverne Police Department, while Betty Tomberlin and Polly Duncan delivered to the Crenshaw Sheriff Office.

Praise Report: The Veteran's Day programs that were given in honor of our veterans at our local schools were outstanding.

Thank you students and teachers and administrators. If you have not done so, please take the time to thank a veteran.
