Emily Morgan honored with send off reception

The Crenshaw County Junior Miss send off Reception honoring Emily Morgan was held on Nov. 28 at the John D. Harrison Cultural Center.

Many friends and relatives came to wish Emily well in the upcoming events surrounding the state competition for the Alabama Junior Miss.

Emily is the daughter of Jimmy and Cindy Morgan.

The Crenshaw County Junior Miss Committee hosted the event.

Morgan will leave Dec. 3 for a week of preparation for Alabama Junior Miss which will held December 10-11 at the Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery.

A bridal shower was also held honoring Brittany Blankenship, bride-elect of Troy Johnson, at the fellowship hall at South Luverne Baptist on Nov. 28.

Friends and relatives registered between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Brittany received many beautiful and useful gifts. Sally Peacock, chairperson of the shower committee of SLBC, decorated the party area and prepared the delicious refreshments.

Ms. Blankenship is from Ozark.

Chapel Hill Baptist Church hosted a Thanksgiving dinner honoring the Chapel Hill Volunteer Fire Department on Nov. 21.

The Church also honored the fire department with a monetary donation as an expression of thanks for all they do for the community through volunteer work and their untiring efforts.

Louise Fox recently traveled to North Carolina and West Virginia.

While in North Carolina she visited her 88-year-old uncle Dr. E. Luther Copeland and his family. In West Virginia she located a printer for her deceased mother’s book of religious poetry entitled My Beautiful Autumn.

A highlight of her visit was seeing the huge windmills in Tucker County, W.V., which provide electricity for the local district.

Several people from the Luverne area enjoyed the three-act play, Our Town, recently held at the Trojan Center Theater on the Troy University campus.

Our Town, which was written by Thorton Wilder, was presented by Troy University Department of Speech and Theatre. The play made a profound statement about life growing up in the 20th century, marrying, living and dying leaving you with a question, &uot;Do human beings ever realize life while they live it?"

The residents of Meadowcrest Apartments, who were home on Thanksgiving Day, were blessed with a full Thanksgiving meal.

The meal was cooked at South Luverne Baptist and delivered by Mr. and Mrs. Wes Stinson and family. The residents were overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness and were very appreciative of the kindness.

Mr. and Mrs. Alton Richburg and their son David spent Thanksgiving Day with their son Mr.& Mrs. Mahlon Richburg of Auburn and their son George.

Presto and Vivian Walker hosted a Thanksgiving holiday get together on Nov. 26.

The guests attending from Montgomery were Mike, Janice and Troy Morgan and Brandon Johnson; Justin Morgan of Pensacola, Fla.; Anthony &uot;Big Tony&uot; and Tony Walker of Ozark; Luke Brown of Campo, Colo.; Kyle Brown, Troy and Ed Walker of Luverne.

Ernie Pearl Hall, a former resident of Luverne, now living in Montgomery would like to hear from her friends and neighbors.

Hall is recuperating from falling and breaking her hip for the second time. She is improving and loves to get cards, letters and phone calls.

Preston and Vivian Walker and Judy Morgan were guests of Dr. Jean Thompson of Greenville for the Lewis Gizzard performance at the historical Ritz Theatre on Nov. 8.
