Council to get in last meeting of the year

Due to the holidays, the Greenville City Council will meet this Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.

On the agenda will be a resolution to authorize capital improvements to Southeast Alabama Gas District in the amount of $23,372.25 for gas line improvements.

The capital improvements will be in the area near Hysco and it is part of the industrial development agreement between the city and Hysco.

Another item that many have waited on is the resolution to authorize a lease of the Beeland Park facilities for services with the Boys and Girls Club.

Due to the announcement last Monday at LBWCC, the resolution was put off until this meeting.

The city will also authorize a $10,000 allocation commitment for the Boys and Girls Club for 2004-2005.

There will also be a resolution for the city to contract services with the YMCA.

Expenditures up for approval include $2,500.50 to the law firm of Hartley and Hickman for legal fees and retainer for October and November.

The council will also vote to reimburse Patrick Bozeman, a Greenville firefighter, and a total of $1,373.

This is for paramedic course tuition at Trenholm Technical College.

Another public safety disbursement will be to the Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy for $3,502.

These monies will pay for academy fees, meals, lodging and ammunition for Officers Gayla Martinez, Officer Tyson Bennett and Officer Andy Beck.

There will be a request to pay expenditure to the Alabama Department of Transportation for $1,200 for motorist information signs on Interstate 65 for Sherling Lake for 2005.

Of important notice, all City of Greenville offices will be closed in celebration of Christmas on Friday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 27.

The garbage route for Christmas Eve will be picked up on Thursday, Dec. 23.

The garbage route for Monday, Dec. 27th will be picked up on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

The city offices will also be closed on Friday, Dec. 31st in observance of the New Year's holiday.

Friday's garbage route will be picked up on Monday, Jan. 3, 2005.

Also, all city business licenses for 2004 expire on Dec. 31st.

Businesses have until Jan. 31, 2005 to renew their business license for 2005 without penalty.

The next regular city council meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 10, 2005.
