Focused on the #039;goal#039;

Youth basketball is now underway in the city of Greenville. The league kicked off on Monday with the adults playing. From Tuesday on it has been the children's league.

In the senior girls division, the Storm raged against the Comets, 24-8.

Brittany Pope was the leading scorer for the storm. She finished the night with 12 points. Kiara Roper was second in scoring with four and then Adriana Murray finished with three. Marthina Carter and Angelica Edwards both finished with two points. For the Coments, Danio Crenshaw, Victoria Lewis, Darisha Savage and Andrea Roper all had two points.

In the Midget girls division, the Liberty outlasted the Pistons 19-11.

LaKedra Savage, Mallory Jones and Tyleshia McDonald all contributed scores in the win. Flonekia McWilliams and Jasmine Morris were the leading scorers with six and three points respectively.

The Wildcats and the Sparks had the nightcap in the Midget Girls division.

The Wildcats also posted the victory as they doubled-up the Sparks, 14-7.

Tekila Walker and Gabrielle Lee had four each with Nikki Durrant being the leading scorer with six.

Kiara Cook and Jalissa Simpson scored for the Sparks and then were helped out when the Wildcats shot the ball into their own basket.

In the Senior Boys division, the Gamecocks defeated the Knicks.

Fredrick Johnson and Sylvester Crenshaw posted the high scores for their squad with 14 points and 12 points respectively. They were followed by Dabry Rudolph, Jareld Yelder and Curtis Thagard with four points each.

Hatcher Jackson rounded out the scoring for the Gamecocks with two points.

For their opponents, Demonte Crenshaw led all scores with 27 points. He blew up in the third quarter with 18 points.

Michael Frost finished with four points, Douglas Oliver ended the night with three points and Antonio Jones finished with two points.

In the second game of the Senior Boys division, Mario Roper fired off 25 points as the Bulls charged the All-Stars 49-29.

Demarcus Griffen finished the night with 12 points and was followed in scoring by his Bull teammates Kuldren Pate and Roderick Smith with eight points each and then Kelvin Mitchell with six points.

For the All-Stars, Sequincy Robinson was their leading scorer with nine points. Mitchell Patton finished with seven. Nicholas Albritton, Delvon Gaffney, Laterrian Smith and Spencer Powell all finished the game with baskets.

Youth league games are scheduled to be played up through Dec. 22. They will be put on hold until after the Christmas holidays. Business in Dunbar Gym will pick back up in the first of January with the league going non stop until February.
