Although softball season is nearly two months away, the Greenville High School softball program has released its 2005 schedule.
Practice for the Lady Tigers will begin on January 31 with their first game being set for Feb. 24.
In the spring, the Lady Tigers will make their way through a schedule that has them competing in four tournaments before the sectional tournament and the sub-state tournaments.
Greenville will participate in the Trojan Classic Tournament hosted by Charles Henderson High School in Troy on March 4-5. The next week they will travel down to Andalusia and compete in the Andalusia High School Tournament.
To open April, the Lady Tigers will get a taste of independent school softball when they are one of many teams that will participate in the Trinity Tournament.
Greenville will not have another tournament until the end of the season and it's going to be the Vestavia Hills Tournament in Birmingham. That will also be held the weekend before the sectional tournament and before sub-state tournaments begin.
Besides the various tournaments on the schedule, Greenville High softball coach Donna Sunnycalb has her squad set up with some tough competition.
The Lady Tigers are in an area that includes Carroll-Ozark, Eufaula and Charles Henderson. Their cross-area rivals are no slouches either.
When post season tournament time rolls around, the Lady Tigers could find themselves going head-to-head with the Lady Wildcats of Benjamin Russell High School, the Lady Rams of Valley High School or the Lady Indians of Russell County.
Greenville will kick their season off Feb. 24 with a home game against Andalusia. From there the squad will face Montgomery Academy and St. James on March 1 and 3 respectively.
After spending back-to-back weekends in Troy and Andalusia, Greenville will return to the Lady Tiger Softball Complex to play host to Lamp Magnate School in a doubleheader and then Trinity Presbyterian on March 14 and 15.
The Lady Tigers will get their first taste of regional action beginning on March 17.
They will travel to Ozark, Troy and then will return home to face Eufaula.
The squad travels to Andalusia and then welcomes the Lady Tigers of Luverne to town to close the month of March.
The Lady Tigers will enter their final month of full competition in April with the Tournament at Trinity Presbyterian in Montgomery.
On April 5, Greenville travels to Montgomery again to face Montgomery Academy.
Then will face Carroll-Ozark at home.
Greenville High will face Luverne again in Luverne on April 12 and then will go one-on-one with Trinity Presbyterian for the second time of the 2005 season.
Charles Henderson High brings their Lady Trojans to town on April 18. One day later, the Lady Tigers travel up the road for a game against Highland Home's Flying Squadron and then two days later they will be on the road again this time in their final regional game of the season.
On April 21, the Lady Tigers will face Eufaula's squad in their final regional game of the season. To end the regular season, the Lady Tigers will play host to Highland Home and then travel to Wetumpka before ending their season in the Vestavia Hills Tournament.
The sectional tournament is slated to start May 7 with sub-state taking place May 10.
The second sub-state tournament will take place May 14 and then the state tournament will be held in Montgomery's Lagoon Park beginning May 19.
