Remembering the birthday of her second child will be no problem for Sherese Dunklin.
The 26-year-old Greenville resident gave birth to Crenshaw County's first baby of the New Year on Monday at Crenshaw Community Hospital in Luverne. Following only four and half hours of labor, Dunklin's 8-pound, 6-ounce, 22-inch bouncing baby boy, Andre Davison Jr., was introduced to the world.
"I thank God for him," Dunklin said Tuesday afternoon. "It won't be hard to remember his birthday. It's the day after his grandfather's birthday."
Doctors expected Andre Junior to be born on Jan. 2. Dunklin said she was thrilled to have such a quick delivery.
"It was a blessing," she said. "I didn't have to have an epidural. I don't like needles."
Andre Junior's father is Andre Davison, Sr., also of Greenville. His big sister is, Adrienna Taylor.
Dunklin and her baby were sent home on Wednesday morning after a two-day stay in the hospital. She was presented a baby stroller filled with baby items donated by the hospital and local merchants.
"I'm going to sit at home," Dunklin said. "I keep my sisters' children while she's at work."
Andre Junior is the grandson of Delois Dunklin and Tee Davison, both of Greenville.
