Gatherings continue in Petrey

Elwood and Liz Farris entertained their whole family on Christmas Day.

Their grandson, David Stephenson, visited from Montgomery and their other grandson, Teddy Barrera, visited from Livingston. The couple's son Eddie Barrera and granddaughter, Michelle Smith, her husband Sandy, and their children also came to celebrate Christmas.

Ethel and Bass Dorsey enjoyed visits from Ethel's brothers over the Christmas holidays. Davon Willis came from Detroit and Jesse Willis came from Atlanta.

Norman Parks, the office manager for W. L. Petrey Wholesale Company, hosted a Christmas party for the "Petrey Girls" of the company at The Pines Restaurant in Troy on Dec. 28.

Curtis and Nancy Petrey visited Nancy's brother, David Williams, his wife, Mary and their sons Richard and John in Huntsville on New Year's Eve.

Nancy's other brother, Ben Williams, his wife, Valerie, Valerie's mother, Alison Nelson, and brother, Scott Nelson of Chicago, came down from Lynchburg, Tenn. to join in the New Year's Eve celebration.

After dinner at a Mexican restaurant, they enjoyed driving through the Galaxy of Lights at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens. This spectacular outdoor light show was an artistic marvel.

The Petreys continued their visit the next day, enjoying a traditional New Year's Day lunch prepared by Mary. They later stopped off in Guntersville to visit Curtis' brother, John Walter Petrey and his wife, Betty, on their way back home to the Town of Petrey

Iris Wilkerson hosted a New Year's Day lunch for her sister-in-law, Louise Messick, and Louise's sister, Lavada Price, from Troy.

Several Petrey residents including, Margaret Petrey, James Green, Robert Finlay, Valeta Spradley, Maynard and Valera Rolling, attended the funeral of Martha Sipper Lyon of Montgomery, who died Dec. 29. The graveside service was held at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on Hwy. 331 on Dec. 31.

Mrs. Lyon was a former resident of Petrey.

Another recent death was that of Lucy Richburg, the grandmother of Mrs. Joe (Cheryl) Petrey, formerly of Petrey, who passed away on Dec. 31 and was buried in Troy on Jan. 2.

Mrs. Richburg died of a heart attack at the Magnolia Home.

Getty Hitt of the Patsburg community had surgery on Dec. 30 in Montgomery and was released the next day. She has been making a quick recovery.

Sue Beasley now has a cast on her right hand up to the shoulder. The elbow had to be stabilized due to a broken thumb that the doctor discovered was also a part of her injury from the fall and was causing pain in the elbow. Sue reported to work on Monday and had to do her secretarial work using her left hand. Sue, as well as Getty, would appreciate everyone's prayers for their speedy healing.

The monthly Petrey Community Supper will take place at the Community Center at 6 p.m. on Jan. 8.

Everyone in the area is invited to come, bring a dish, and enjoy the fellowship.
