Ms. Betty Elaine Kilpatrick Smith of Greenville and Mr. Edward L. Newton of Georgiana announce their engagement and forthcoming wedding.

The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Clifton and Gertude Reid Kilpatrick. She is a 1953 graduate of Georgiana High School and is going on her 15th year employed at the Greenville Wal-Mart. Ms. Smith and her late husband, Clarence, raised six children together.

The prospective groom is the son of the late William and Mabel Newton. He also is a 1953 graduate of Georgiana High School. Mr. Newton is retired from the U.S. Postal Service out of Mobile, and currently operates a blueberry farm in the Providence Community of south Butler County. He is the father of two children.

The couple, who had not seen each other since their high school days, became reacquainted last year during a visit by Smith and a friend to Mr. Newton's blueberry farm. The couple became engaged in September of 2004 and plan to divide their time between Ms. Smith's home on Highway 10 and Mr. Newton's farm on County Road 30.

The wedding is planned for February 5, 2005 at Southside Baptist Church in Greenville. Following their wedding and reception at the church, the couple plan a wedding trip to Florida.
