Support city#039;s blood drive

The City of Greenville and LifeSouth have slated a community blood drive for Wednesday in front of City Hall.

This blood drive will surely help save lives, one pint at a time.

We plead with all who are eligible to make an effort to attend this blood drive —- and help give the gift of life.

Winter has been an extremely rough time for blood banks.

Blood donations are traditionally lower at this time, but with harsh weather conditions this winter, blood levels have reached critically low stages across the country.

Giving blood is one of the simplest things a person can do to help save a life. Blood knows only type — A, B, AB, or O. It doesn’t know race, sex, or political affiliation. It is the one thing that all people — black, white, male, female, Republican or Democrat — can donate to help out their fellow man.

The folks who have organized this community blood drives need and deserve our congratulations, too.

We should all follow the lead of these people and do our part. We encourage you to do your part — give the gift of life.

This is the time of year that blood banks such as LifeSouth and the American Red Cross replenishes the supply depleted during the holidays.

So on Wednesday, go to City Hall and look for the bloodmobile in the front parking lane at 119 E. Commerce St. from noon to 5 p.m.

It is important to remember that you may need blood at any time and wouldn't you feel better knowing that you helped out?

We know we'll be there doing our part to save the lives of our family, friends and neighbors, one pint at a time.
