Library book sale to kick off
Published 12:00 am Saturday, March 26, 2005
While April 1 may technically be &uot;April’s Fool Day&uot;, local book lovers will be making a wise decision when they stop in to the Greenville-Butler County Public Library (GBCPL) come the first of this April.
That’s when the big Preview Sale for the library’s Annual Used Book Sale kicks off. Beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, April 1 and running ’til 6:30 p.m. that evening,, patrons are invited to bring their $5 admission fee (and a generous-sized bag or box along with them) so they can get first dibs on bagging up the excellent book bargains always available at the annual sale.
On Saturday, April 2, the admission is free. Saturday’s sale runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Librarian Burke &uot;Sweetie&uot; McFerrin says the event benefits local readers in several ways.
&uot;We always look upon this annual sale as a great opportunity for local folks, who can’t really afford to go out and buy new books for their home libraries, to come in here and build up their collections without spending a lot of cash. And the monies raised go to buy materials and supplies for our library patrons to use we could not otherwise afford. So it is a real win-win situation for all of us,&uot; says McFerrin.
Prices start on Friday at $1 for hard covers and 50 cents for paperback titles.
In addition to a variety of non-fiction and fiction titles in sci-fi, romance, mystery, inspirational, cooking, children’s books and other genres, the annual sale also offers used periodicals, CDs, videos, DVDs, record albums and other items at rock-bottom prices that go even lower as the day progresses.
&uot;Prices will fall throughout the day on Saturday as we seek to ‘move ’em all out’ -but you have to decide if you want to take the risk of the books you want still being there later, however,&uot; warns McFerrin.
The library will continue to take donations for the annual event &uot;right up to the day of the sale&uot;, says Burchie Crosby, library assistant. Folks are urged to peruse their own shelves and any nooks and crannies in the coming days for books and other items they would like to donate to this worthy cause.
