Thursday afternoon, students at Greenville High School were rockin' and rollin' to the tunes of today and yesterday performed by the musical ensemble group from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia.

In what has become a standing tradition at the high school, the show-choir which tours the southeast stops by Greenville and puts on a free show.

"Once a year the LBW Ensemble comes and performs for our students," said Dr. Kathy Murphy. "Obviously we have them here for the entertainment value, but we encourage our students to look at college and look at LBW and look at the opportunities they have to perform. We have some excellent musicians in our school and three of them were on stage.

The performance, which was directed by Greg Aplin an instructor at LBW, was very contemporary in nature with the group performing songs by the Dave Matthews Band, Edwin McCain, Avril Lavigne and Allison Krauss. But for the nostalgic listeners in attendance, the group also offered covers of Chain of Fools and they rocked out to the 1980's anthem Footloose.

"We are a show-choir. We perform concerts all over the southeast," said Aplin. "We perform for high schools, junior colleges, elementary schools and for some foundations. It's just a lot of different places. Mostly any function that we can get set up in and can perform, we are happy to. We've been coming here now for the last six or seven years. I thought the crowd was good and there was great facilities and the crowd was good."

The group has been visiting the Greenville High School for many years. According to Murphy, it's been going on before she took the helm of the high school.

"We really just have a standard operating procedure," said Murphy. "They contact us when they're touring and when they are close to our school.

We set them up and get them in here. I know that they've been doing this the three year's that I've been principal and I think that they have been doing that prior to my being here."
