The Greenville Tigersharks YMCA swim team kicked off the season with blue being the team's favorite color.

The Tigersharks collected 19 first-place ribbons at the East YMCA pool on June 10.

"It was well more than what we expected especially with so many new ones on the team," said Tigersharks coach Debbie Haire. "We knew what the veterans could do, but it was the new ones that really surprised us."

Of the 19 first-place finishes, two new swimmers brought home blue ribbons in their first swim meet ever.

The Tigersharks also collected 17 second-place and 15 third-place ribbons.

"This first meet has set the bar pretty high," Haire said "That's what they try to do in each meet is to make their times faster. They take that very first meet and then compare it to every meet from now on."

The Tigersharks will be back in the water starting at 9:30 a.m. today with a meet at the Prattville YMCA.
