Lacey Barr and Syndi Boutwell swept their respective age groups to take first place in each event they swam in on Thursday to help the Greenville Tigersharks rake in 89 ribbons in a four-team meet in Montgomery.

Barr, competing in the 8-year-old division, took first place in the 25 yard freestyle, back and breastrokes and the 100 free relay.

Boutwell, competing in the 12-year-old age group, brought home first-place ribbons in the 50 freestyle, back and breaststrokes as well as capturing the titles in the 200 freestyle and medley relays.

"That was just a great job by our girls," said Tigersharks swim coach Debbie Haire.

After Friday's

meet, the Tigersharks returned to the water on Saturday in a 13-team meet against most of the YMCA swim teams from Montgomery, Eufaula, Prattville and Monoreville.

The Tigersharks came away with just six ribbons in a meet that had more than 450 swimmers competing.

"I still think we did pretty good," Haire said. "The first-year swimmers are continuing to amaze me and the vets are swimming faster this year compared to last year's times."

Barr continued to swim well for the Tigersharks, placing seventh in the 25 breaststroke and then ninth in the 25 backstroke.

Greenville will take almost two weeks off before competing again. The Tigersharks relay teams will be back in the water July 2 in Prattville. The team will return to the pool at 6:30 p.m. July 7 at the Southeast YMCA in Montgomery.

Until then, Haire said the team will continue to practice.

"We'll work on our strokes some," she said. "And in some of the meets our kids got (disqualified) for not doing something right. We'll work on that to correct that before the next meet."
