Covington County Angels blank Greenville

Covington County held Greenville to just one hit on the night to cruise to a 16-0 opening-round victory in the sub-district Dixie Angels Tournament at the Greenville Softball Complex Thursday night.

Greenville held Covington County to just two hits heading into the fifth inning, but that was where things just fell apart for the host team.

Covington County batted around scored nine runs on seven hits and rolled to the semifinals.

Greenville now falls into the loser's bracket to face the winner of Friday's game between Highland Home and Luverne. Greenville will face the winner at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Highland Home fell into the loser's bracket after an 11-1 setback, while Brantley held on to nip Luverne 11-10 on Thursday.

Covington County jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Katelyn Kinsaul drew the sixth Greenville walk so far on the evening. Kinsaul's walk scored Brianna Dozier, who also drew a free pass to lead off the inning.

Covington County added to its lead in the third inning on a RBI single past second base and an error.

Kristen Herman crushed a pitch past second base to score Paige Taylor. Then a errand throw from right field allowed three more runs, including Herman to score to give Covington County a comfortable 5-0 lead.

Covington County then sent 15 batters to the plate in the fifth inning to score nine runs on seven hits to close out the 16-0 victory .

Greenville's lone hit of the night came on a Niaya Johnson single to centerfield in the fourth inning.
