Greenville Angels get bounced from sub-district tourney

The Greenville All-Star Angels had their sub-district tournament lives cut short on Saturday.

Falling into an elimination game, Greenville saw an 8-4 lead disappear as well as its hopes for a sub-district title.

Highland Home scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to eliminate Greenville, 9-8.

Kasi Graham scored the game-winning run with two out in the sixth when Samantha Ray was walked with the bases loaded. Ray was one of 21 Highland Home players to draw a walk during the game.

Greenville jumped out to an 8-4 late in the game thanks to a 6-run fourth inning.

Colby Benson led Greenville at the plate with two hits, two RBI and a run scored. Daphne Moore chipped in with a double and a run scored.

Highland Home was led by MaRissa Shepherd with a hit and a run scored.

Andalusia advanced to the tournament semifinals by knocking off Covington County, 7-3.

Covington County jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Andalusia responded with a six runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Sarah Rae Johnson led Andalusia with a hit and two runs scored. Laken Harris led Covington County with a hit and a run scored.

Andalusia, which beat Highland Home 4-3 in the semifinals, advanced to the championship round of the tournament for a rematch with Covington County Tuesday night. Results of the game were not available by presstime Tuesday.

Covington County advanced to the championship by eliminating Brantley, 13-8.
