Greenville's mayor will be taking on some new duties this fall. Dexter McLendon has been named director of the Southeast Alabama Gas District.
McLendon, who has served on SEAGD's executive board for two years, currently serves as vice-chairman for the organization.
As vice-chairman, he will automatically be stepping into the director's position Oct. 1.
According to McLendon, SEAGD is owned by 14 cities across Alabama.
"As director, I will be responsible for making sure this is both a profitable operation and one that is providing the needs of the customers served in these cities," McLendon said.
McLendon will be working with the development of budgets, as well as agendas for SEAGD's monthly executive committee meetings.
While this new position will require attendance at more meetings and more time devoted to SEAGD, McLendon said he is looking forward to what he sees as "a great opportunity."
"SEAGD has a great professional management team that will help me in making decisions, not unlike the department heads here in Greenville who give good advice," he said.
"I've learned from my experience as mayor, when you are surrounded by good people, it makes any job a whole lot easier."
