Greenville gymnasts tumble to team silver

Competing for the first time in gymnastics, the Greenville Level 3 gymnasts, who are coached by Lauren Smith, finished second at the Chilton County YMCA Invitational on Sept. 10.
Theresa Scott, competing in the 11-year-old division, took first in the all-around with a total score of 35.95. Scott won first place on vault and floor, while finishing second on bars and the balance beam.
Scott's winning score on vault was 9.3, while her winning score on the floor was 8.75.
Teammate Heather Owens finished fourth in the all-around, while Hannah Stewart took fifth. Richelle Thomas finished sixth in the all-around, and Linsey Niehaus was seventh.
Ashton Scott finished third in the all-around in the 8-year-old division. She was second on the balance beam with a 9.0, while finishing fourth on the floor.
Savannah Sexton finished seventh in the all-around followed by Abbi Sanders, who was ninth in the all-around. Sayge Snell finished tenth in the all-around.
"This was a big day for our girls, and it was the largest competitive squad that we've had ever," Smith said.
Chandler Ainsworth was 12th in the all-around in the 9-10 year-old division followed by Shelby Simmons, who was 13th, and Laiken Burleson was 15th in the all-around.
The Level 4 team, which is coached by Terre Reid, finished third as a team with Ashley Newton taking third place on the floor in the 11-year-old division.
Jade Stovall finished third on the floor in the 10-year-old division, while placing sixth on the balance beam and the vault.
Rebecca Foster, competing in the Level 6 division, took second in the all-around. She was a silver medallist on bars and the balance beam and a bronze medallist on the vault and the floor.
