A Brantley police officer stands charged with 1st degree rape according to investigators with the Crenshaw County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's investigator Robin Daniel said 35-year-old Brad Darby, a 10-year law enforcement veteran who recently resigned from the Brantley Police Department, was arrested Tuesday morning on charges that he raped a 16-year-old female.

"The incident is alleged to have occurred a couple of months ago," said Daniel, who said CCSD Chief Investigator Ronnie White has been investigating allegations against Darby since the incident was supposed to have taken place. After interviewing the alleged victim, White said a warrant was issued for Darby's arrest on Wednesday.

1st degree rape is a Class A felony and carries a penalty of 10 years to life.
