If you're expecting a package in the mail, you have until 5 this afternoon to pick it up before Christmas.
The Greenville Post Office window will be open today from 8:30 a.m. until noon, but if you need to pick up a package, you may do so until 5 p.m. today. According to Marshall Crumpton, postmaster of Greenville, customers may ring the front bell for service anytime after 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. The post office will be closed Christmas Day and Monday, Dec. 26.
“If anyone is expecting a package and hasn't gotten a notice yet, please call the post office,” Crumpton said.
The post office's number is 382-3721.
Crumpton said that Wednesday was the last day to mail a package Priority Mail in order to get it to its destination by Christmas Eve. On Thursday and Friday, packages had to be shipped Express Mail in order to arrive by Christmas Eve.
With all of the holiday mail and packages, Crumpton said that this past Monday was the busiest day of the week.
“We've had about a 40 to 50 percent increase in our normal deliveries this year,” Crumpton said. “With the long hours our postal employees have been working, it'll be hard for them to get enough time to Christmas shop for their own families.”
In addition, Crumpton said that the new 39-cent stamp, which will go into effect Jan. 8, is on sale now. One and two-cent stamps will be available for customers to use with the 37-cent stamps.
