Greenville continues to be a city that gives.

Fred's, located on the Greenville Bypass, donated its operating net profits from Sept. 11, 2005, to the Greenville Police Department and to the Greenville Fire Department this Thursday.

Fred's store manager Randy Beeson said that since 9/11, all 611 Fred's locations around the Southeast take their operating net profits from the Sept. 11 of that fiscal year and donate them to local fire and police departments.

This is done in memory of the police officers and fire fighters who lost their lives on 9/11 in New York.

&#8220This is just one small way we can give back to our police officers and fire fighters and let them know how much we appreciate them and all the things that they do for us every single day,” Beeson said.

Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram and Greenville Fire Chief Mike Phillips were on hand to receive the donations from Beeson and from Jerry Myers, Fred's store owner.
