A former Butler County corrections officer was arrested and charged with custodial sexual misconduct after he admitted to having sexual intercourse with a female inmate at the Butler County Jail.
Albert Campbell, 47, of Greenville allegedly confessed to having intercourse with a 32-year-old inmate, who was awaiting transfer to Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka, on Dec. 8, 2005.
“They had been friends for a long time, and this is something they had planned. And they followed through with it.” Harris said. “But this is something you just don't do. I guess they didn't think it would ever be found out.”
Campbell was working on his day off the date of the incident, according to jail administrator Albert McKee. Campbell had swapped out a working date with a fellow employee, McKee said.
Harris said she learned of the incident on Dec. 16, and interviewed Campbell.
“I had (investigator) Hadley get another statement that was more detailed (Tuesday morning), and he was detained, arrested and charged,” Harris said.
Campbell was released on a $10,000 bond Tuesday and could face 1 to 10 years in jail if convicted.
