One of Greenville's oldest citizens was honored last week during Senator Shelby's annual visit to the county last Wednesday.

Herbert Johnson, who turned 100 on January 11, was escorted into council chambers by some of Greenville's finest on his special day.

Johnson met the senator prior to the public meeting, with Shelby lauding the centenarian on reaching such a milestone occasion.

&#8220I would love to know what the secret to such a long life is,” Shelby said as he shook Johnson's hand and posed for a photo op.

&#8220Love everybody,” was the smiling Johnson's response, one which Probate Judge Steve Norman said &#8220was a fine idea.”

Mayor Dexter McLendon led those in attendance in singing &#8220Happy Birthday” to Johnson, who was also wished &#8220many more” birthdays to come.

Johnson's wife Lucille and several family members and friends were also able to attend the meeting.
