Making way through the paperwork involved in applying for financial aid can be a daunting task for many students and their parents.
That's why the county's high school counseling departments, along with Regina Eggleston, college assistant program specialist for the system, have organized a system of workshops to help make the process much easier.
“We know many parents are hesitant about the applying for federal financial aid because they don't understand the whole process. These workshops will take them through the process, step by step,” Eggleston said.
Financial aid directors from three area campuses, Reid State, Trenholm State and LBWCC, will be on hand to help those in attendance. Workshops are slated for Greenville, McKenzie and Georgiana, with both day and evening sessions being offered.
“We wanted to make this as convenient for our parents as possible, so we are offering both daytime and nighttime sessions. Also, you can attend any of the workshops, regardless of where a student attends school, if that works out better for your schedule,” Eggleston said.
The schedule for the financial aid workshops is as follows:
Georgiana H.S. (lunchroom)
Jan. 26 – 10 a.m. –
Reid St. – Christy Bulger
Feb. 16 -6 p.m. – Reid St. – Christy Bulger
Greenville H.S. (auditorium)
Feb. 1- 9:30 a.m. – Trenholm St. – Betty Edwards
Feb. 8 – 6 p.m. – Trenholm St. – Betty Edwards
McKenzie School (auditorium)
Jan. 31
– 9 a.m. – LBW – Donna Bass
Feb. 21 – 6 p.m. – LBW – Donna Bass
“These sessions will be very informative and helpful in completing one of the most pertinent requirements for college. We look forward to seeing many parents and students at the workshops,” Eggleston said.
