The Luverne Tigers' B-Team played a hard-fought game to the end with Elba, leading into overtime action.
Coach Andre Parks' Tigers were down 10-5 to Elba at the end of the first quarter, but by the end of the first half, Luverne was up 16-14. By the end of the third quarter, Elba began pulling away with the lead 28-25.
Brasmon Harris made a layup with 2:47 left in the game, bringing the score to 34-33 with Elba in the lead. After a free throw by Elba, Harris tied the game by chipping in two more points.
Elba answered with three more points only to have Luverne's Jeremiah Leach drop in a 3-pointer to tie the game 38-38 with 1:12 left on the clock. Leach then pitched in two free throws, and Harris added a layup to tie the game again at 42-42, sending the game into overtime.
Elba came out in full-court press. Leach dropped in a pair of free throws with 2:32 left in overtime, bringing the score to 44-45. But, Elba pulled out ahead, and ended the game with 55 over Luverne's 48.
“I'm really proud of them,” Coach Parks said. “They played about as well as they have all year, minus the free throws.”
“Elba made most of their free throws, and we didn't,” he said. “But, the first time we played Elba, they were up by 30 points by halftime. We could have just given up, but we didn't.”
