Greenville High School offered a &#8220showcase of talent” Thursday night at the GHS Auditorium. The talent show, organized by the Parental Involvement Committee, offered free admission and a chance for parents, family members and alumni to participate in and enjoy an evening of music, dance and drama at the school.

GHS history instructor Todd Henderson served as emcee for the evening.

GHS Principal Kathy Murphy was on hand to welcome the audience to the event.

&#8220This is something new we are trying – an opportunity for parents, students and alumni to show off their talents and to come together in a fun way.”

Thirteen acts vied for the cash prizes offered to the top talents of the evening, with vocalist Chelsea Wilkerson taking top honors as first place winner of $100. Songstress Brittany Byrd took second place honors and a $75 cash prize, while the G-High Step Team received third place honors and a $50 cash prize.

Honorable mentions and cash prizes of $25 went to vocalist Rylee Andrews and dancing duo Courtney Rice and Olivia Glenn.

Other performers included keyboardist-vocalist duo, Anthony and Aaron Coleman; vocalist Alex Cartwright, mother-daughter singing duo, Cheryl McNaughton and Tiffany Owens, vocalist Katie McGough, monologist Kris Ferguson and trumpeter Tyler Ray.

Prior to the talent show, Murphy encouraged parents present to become more involved in their children's education and to consider joining committees and/or contributing volunteer hours at the school.

&#8220Let us hear from you and know how you are willing to serve,” Murphy said.

&#8220You can come in and help us answer phones…make copies of papers…the volunteer opportunities are certainly here.”

Tables were set up in the lobby for parents wishing to join the school's PTO and those students wanting to sign up for tutoring for the upcoming Alabama High School Graduate Exam.

Upcoming Greenville High School special events include the Miss GHS Pageant on March 4, the choral student trip to New York March 30-April 30 and the prom on April 8.
