EVERGREEN - Looks of frustration were common on the faces of Fort Dale Academy's golf team Monday in a tri-match with Wilcox Academy and host Sparta Academy at the Evergreen Country Club Golf Course.
Will Farrar shot a team low 88, which is typically 10 shots over his average, to lead Fort Dale to a second-place finish.
Sparta Academy won the tournament with a 355 team score, while the Eagles were 20 shots off the Warriors' pace.
“It was just one of those days for our guys,” Fort Dale golf coach Reggie Mantooth said. “They just didn't play very well.”
Fort Dale traveled to Montgomery to River Run Golf Course on Tuesday to compete in a 10-team tournament hosted by Macon-East Montgomery Academy. Results were not available by presstime on Tuesday.
Cody Norman shot a 94 to finish second on the team behind Farrar on Monday, while Ben Bates carded a 95. Sanders Hancock shot a 98 to round out the top four scorers for Fort Dale.
After Tuesday's tournament in Montgomery, Fort Dale's golf team will take the next two weeks off before participating in the annual Marion Military Institute golf tournament on April 6.
Mantooth said that he hopes his players get in plenty of practice time leading up to the April 6 tournament.
“Since the state golf tournament is here at Cambrian Ridge, I'm hoping we can get in a few more practice rounds over there to bone up for the state tournament,” Mantooth said.
