The Fort Dale Academy girls tennis team rebounded from its only loss of the season two weeks ago by thumping Tuscaloosa Academy at the Lagoon Tennis Complex in Montgomery on Thursday.

The Lady Eagles (6-1) ran into trouble twice during the entire match at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles, but they still came away with a 7-0 victory.

No. 3 singles player Kayla Butts dropped her first set to Tuscaloosa's Sina Kuhn before bouncing back to win the second set, 6-2. Butts then won the match in a third set tie-breaker, 7-5.

&#8220It just looks like we aren't going to seen any more competition until the state tournament,” Fort Dale coach Johnny Mac Brown said. &#8220I do feel better knowing that some of the girls we beat Thursday also came away with wins over some of Lee-Scott's girls.”

Fort Dale's No. 1 doubles team of Whitney Jacks and Janie Mullins edged the Tuscaloosa Academy duo of Hannah Notana and Kuhn, 8-6.

Mullins won her No. 1 singles match in straight sets as did Elizabeth Dunklin, Rene Scott and Jacks.

The Eagles' No. 2 doubles team of Dunklin and Butts shut out Tuscaloosa Academy's Katie Johnson and Ashley Shamblin.

Fort Dale's boys team still is looking for its first win of the season.

The Eagles did come away with one win in No. 1 doubles, but dropped the rest of their matches.

The doubles team of Andrew Jones and Stephen Butts dropped Tuscaloosa Academy's Paul Hahn and Stefen Swindoll, 8-6.

Butts also came just shy of posting a win in No. 2 singles. He dropped his first set to Swindoll 7-5, but bounced back with a 6-4 victory in the second to force a deciding set. Swindoll then held on to win the match, 6-4, in the third set.
