Fort Dale Academy No. 1 girls singles tennis player Janie Mullins signed a tennis scholarship Monday with Milligan College near Elizabethton, Tenn.

Mullins becomes the first player to sign a tennis scholarship since Johnny Mac Brown has been head coach at Fort Dale.

&#8220It's a pretty place that offers a number of activities, all of the people were so nice and it's Christian oriented,” Mullins said.

Mullins won the Class AAA No. 2 singles title last year in Montgomery and is a member of the Lady Eagle Class AAA championship team. Mullins also captured the No. 1 doubles state title last season.

Brown said that Mullins also is the first Fort Dale player to sign a tennis scholarship since he's been coaching at the school.

&#8220I never thought that I would be going to college and play tennis,” Mullins added. &#8220And it hasn't quite settled in just yet that I've got that opportunity.”

Mullins said that she plans to major in biology and then go into pre-medicine.

&#8220She plays in a lot of tennis tournaments over the years and has done extremely well,” Brown said. &#8220I think winning over the past couple of years certainly helped out, but I'm extremely proud of her.”
