n Pitch, Hit and Run

The Greenville Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual local qualifier for the Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run starting at 4 p.m. April 19 at Beeland Park. Age divisions are 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14. The competition is open to girls and boys. Stop by the department's

n Pot Luck Benefit

n Fashion & Talent Extravaganza

The scholarship committee of the Co-Workers Professional Women's Club of Butler County will sponsor a fashion and talent extravaganza starting at 7 p.m. April 21 at R.L. Austin Elementary School. Admission is a $5 donation.

n City Track Meet

The Greenville Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual city track meet beginning at 10 a.m. April 22 at the old Greenville High football practice field on School Highland Road. In the event of rain, the meet will be rescheduled for April 29 at the same location. Call 382-3031 for more information.

n Spring Open House

Tammy Meadows of Marengo Plantation and Gena Smith of Spur”S” Farm would like to announce their Spring Open House 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 22 in Lowndesboro. Marengo will be open for free tours & Spur &#8220S” will be featuring horse & carriage, pony & hay rides & other &#8220down on the farm” activites for children & adults. Boxed Lunches will be available at Marengo for $10 with advance reservations required (deadline April 19th). There will be a $5 per person admission charge for farm activities. n PBA Classic

The Greenville Softball Complex will host the PBA Classic for men's and women's softball April 28-29. Entry fee is $150 per team and space is limited. Trophies will be given to the first, second and third-place teams. The entry deadline is April 26. Call 382-6763 or 382-3031 for more information.

n Steak Dinner

Greenville's football booster club, Tiger Pride, will host a kick-off classic fundraising steak dinner at 7 p.m. May 11 at the Dunbar Center in Greenville. Troy University coach Larry Blakeney will be the guest speaker. The cost is $25 per plate, which includes steak, potato, salad, bread and dessert.

n Kindergarten Registration

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church #2 Christian Academy is taking applications for 4-year-old children for our kindergarten program and school readiness program. Children's birthdates will have to be on or before Sept. 1. This is a free program. For more information, please call 563-7062.

n County Commission

The meeting time for the Butler County Commission's regularly scheduled second-Monday meetings has been changed from 10 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Workshops for each regularly scheduled meeting will still be held on the prior Thursday at 6 p.m.

n Head Start Applications

The OCAP Head Start is accepting applications for children ages 3-5 for the 2006-07 program year. The child must be 3 years old by Sept. 2, 2006. Applications will be taken 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday at the following Head Start Centers:

n Athletic Club Meeting

The public is invited to participate at scheduled Greenville High Athletic Club meetings at 6 p.m. every other Monday in the high school cafeteria. The public is encouraged to attend and share ideas toward building a championship-level athletic department.

n 21st Century Afterschool Program

The Butler County Board of Education will be offering a 21st Century Afterschool Program for K-8th grade students Monday-Friday until 5 p.m. at W.O. Parmer, Greenville Elementary, and at the Education and Community Center for Greenville Middle School students.

Certified teachers assist with homework and offer learning activities which are fun and educational. Tuition is $25 per month. Registration forms are available at each of the sites.

n School Readiness

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church #2 Christian Academy is taking applications for 6-weeks to 5-year-olds for our kindergarten program and school readiness program. Our hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Family guardians and private students are accepted. For more information, please call 563-7062

n Prayer Breakfast

The Lowndes-Butler County first Wednesday prayer breakfast is held at 8 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at Priester's Pecans in Fort Deposit.
